What Makes Teton Fly Reels "BEAUTIFULLY SIMPLE"

Simplicity,
rugged durability and functional beauty, combined with an incredibly
smooth patented drag system, have made Teton Reels the choice of guides,
expert fly anglers and novices worldwide.
The Tioga was created to fill the need for a popular
priced, quality reel. Like its older brother, the Teton, the Tioga is
machined from a solid block of space age aluminum alloy. It is anodized
with a durable finish to resist corrosion and abrasion, and utilizes the
same patented drag system that has made the Teton a worldwide favorite.
The reel is engineered to take advantage of modern mass production
technology enabling us to offer the Tioga at a popular price. With more
than two years of heavy use on the water, the Tioga has proven to have
the same rugged reliability as our Teton model.
Changing from right to left hand retrieve can be
accomplished in seconds, as can changing option spare spools. The Tioga
is suitable for use in both fresh and saltwater. In saltwater, it is
always advisable to thoroughly rinse the reel in warm, fresh water to
prevent the buildup of salt deposits. An occasional drop of light oil
applied to the spool bushing, and backing of the drag tension when not
in use will also extend the life of your reels.
The Tioga is available in six sizes to accommodate all
fishing situations. Extra and large arbor spools are also available as
an option.
- The patented Teton drag system
(U.S. Pat. #5590847) consists of two discs, separated by a heat sink.
Friction is applied through the center on four different surfaces.
Tension is applied using a treated neoprene washer, which also acts as
a shock absorber. The two discs are different diameters, one 50%
smaller than the other. The friction surfaces are machined flat and
parallel within .0002 of-an-inch. the drag system has nine parts of
which only one piece moves "one" moving part. Another feature is an
adjustable stripping tension, independent of the main drag system,
which can be adjusted by anyone.
- All Reels are anodized with
Type-3 hard anodize. Anodizing is a process that electrically changes
the surface of aluminum to aluminum oxide - the hardest man-made
substance. After anodizing they are dyed and sealed. The color has
nothing to do with the anodizing.
- The Teton Saltwater Series reels
(Size #7 and up) are treated with a new, proprietary A059 Teflon
coating process which will add 1000 more hours of saltwater protection
than just anodization alone.

We were very
excited about field testing the Tioga because
of its unique qualities and its modest price.
The Tioga’s performance was exceptional and
surprisingly performed as well as much higher
priced reels. The solid stock, outer rim
support, counterbalanced spool, deep line
capacities and precision disk drag is not what
you would expect to find in a reel of such
price.
On the water
experiences demonstrated its qualities and
abilities to withstand some of the West’s most
determined steelhead. During hard initial
runs, the drag system operated with a smooth,
gradual start up, with no hesitation. Most
impressive was the lack of over-ride during
off-the-reel grabs and in-close bursting
runs. Truly a product of unique qualities
that fills a long time void, and can be
purchased by a broad spectrum of angler. To
those preferring more top-of-the-line reels,
the Tioga is strongly recommended as a backup
in your arsenal. For anglers seeking top
performance at a modes price, I highly
recommend the Tioga series.
Sincerely,
Herb
